Cyrille  Oumedjkane

French Flair

The most experienced French representative competing in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Cyrille was also responsible for bringing his fellow countryman Hassan Mouti on board. Oumedjkane was born in Strasbourg, but – as his name suggests – he has Algerian origins.

Born on April 5 1976, Cyrille combines his job as a lifeguard with cliff diving. However his training as a diver is not very different from that of most of the athletes in the championship. He started in the swimming pool and made a career in classic diving, making a name for himself between 1992 and 1994 as national 10m champion.

Considering himself a sportsman by nature, the Frenchman takes every opportunity to be active, whether cycling, swimming or diving.

He got into the whirl of cliff diving back in 2001. Adrenaline is what drives him and although his performance last season was modest (he never came higher than sixth place and finished the 2009 series 10th overall) Cyrille has already had some moments of glory. In 2003 he came third in Acapulco, in the following year he came second in the World Masters, standing out again in 2006 in Acapulco (second) and also in 2008 in the High Diving in Slovenia (third).
