Having already been awarded the title of European Capital Of Culture 2010, Istanbul received a further boost when it was decided that it would play host to this year's Rally of Turkey. The event is being switched from its usual home in the holiday region of Analya. This totally new event in the WRC calendar will allow visitors the opportunity of a unique experience, with the city being the only one in the world to straddle two continents (Europe and Asia).
Proceedings will get underway from the historical Sultanahmet Square in the city centre, between the famous Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia with a spectacular, ceremonial opening. Before the start, all competitors, including their cars will be taken for a ferry trip on the Bosphorus - the strait that splits the European and Asian parts of the city.
