The brand new Korean International Circuit in Yeongam hosted the very first ever Korean F1 Grand Prix in 2010. The initial deal was for seven years, with a further five year option after that, which could see the race stay on the calendar until 2021. It was only as far back as September 2009 when it was first announced that the funding was secured to begin construction of the track, with a planned completion date of July 5, 2010, just 10 months later. In December the organisers announced that they were on schedule, but did admit that they faced a problem in finding accommodation for everyone that would attend, with a capacity for 135,000 plus all Formula One staff, this could still prove a major hindrance. The organisers haven't ruled out the possibility of a night race, something we've already seen the Singapore Grand Prix adopt, making it more convienient for the European TV audience. However they have stated that it won't be contemplated until they have more knowledge and experience of running a Grand Prix. But one things for certain, the organisers are determined to put together a world class package as Korea provides the stage for the Formula One World Championship.

The track itself has been designed by the expert track designer Hermann Tilke, who isn't far off having a complete monopoly on F1 track design. Jeonnam track is 5.4km long and displays his usual traits; sharp hairpins and some quick corners to make over taking more easy. The marina section, which is located in the southern part of the F1 track, offers breathtaking oceans views and becomes the first permanent track in the history of the F1 to have an ocean in the background. Also within the marina section, a radial-shaped town very similar to Monte Carlo of the Monaco Grand Prix, will be constructed. This region will be developed into the greatest motor-sports cluster in the East.
