After Summer X Games 17 in Los Angeles drew to a close we take a photographic look back at the medal count among Red Bull athletes, and what they had to say about their moments of glory...
As if you didn't already know, the X Games features the finest athletes the world has to offer, competing for medals and prize money in the extreme sports of; skateboarding, motocross, BMX and rally car racing. There were early rumours that the 2011 Summer X Games might have been upping stakes to a brand new location, but instead it returns to its rightful home in sunny Los Angeles for another outing. This year will be the 17th edition of the internationally acclaimed event, and as always, ESPN, its family of networks and plethora of digital media assets will be offering 25 hours of live, HD and even 3D programming, meaning you don't miss a single second.
Skateboarding
Skateboard Vert, Park, Street, Big Air, and Best Trick will all be included in this year's competition. Everyone will be watching the Skateboard Vert competition closely to see if Pierre-Luc Gagnon can four-peat, and defeat last year's silver winner Shaun White.
Motocross
Travis Pastrana, now of NASCAR fame, was not expected to ride in the Freestyle Event. He changed his mind and is now a heavy favorite to win. The motocross features the yearly favorites (Super X, Freestyle, and Best Trick) and a new feature this year, Enduro. Speed and Style, Best Whip, Step Up, and Adaptive all return as well.
BMX
Freestyle Vert, Park, Street, and Big Air all reappear in 2011. Garrett Reynolds became the first rider to three-peat in Street in 2010 with an impressive victory. The 2011 Park course is expected to provide a challenge to riders and should excite fans.
Rally
Rally and RallyCross will both be featured per the usual at this year's Games. Pastrana will compete, along with well-known trickster Robbie Maddison, who has been working on his rally skills over the past few months.
