A thrilling race at Misano, an Italian track hosting the San Marino MotoGP, saw Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo (pictured above) take an assured victory, though last year’s champion still trails championship leader Casey Stoner in the standings.

Casey Stoner (number 27), struggling with fatigue, failed to hang on to the lead, but still took third place, while team-mate Dani Pedrosa (26) powered to a deserved second place.

Andrea Dovizioso had a ding-dong battle with fellow countryman Marco Simoncelli, the Gresini man on the identical Honda just squeaking ahead in fourth. Another Italian – who else but Valentino Rossi on his Ducati? – was also battling with Dovi and Simoncelli during the GP.

In Moto2 at Misano, Marc Márquez achieved yet another victory after battling several other riders including Andrea Iannone (pictured behind Márquez) and Scott Redding.

Motocross MX1/MX2
In MX1, Italian motocross star Antonio Cairoli sealed this year’s title during the European GP rounds at Gaildorf, Germany. It’s Tony’s fifth world title, and comes after he suffered injury in the first meetring in Bulgaria but powered back with nine moto victories.

Ken Roczen piled on the glory for KTM by taking the MX2 title on home soil, also with one round still to go.

Russia’s Artem Silchenko broke records with six 10s and the best ever score in Red Bull Cliff Diving history – 518.30 points ¬– to claim the win in the final event of the 2011 series in Yalta, Ukraine. Great Britain’s Gary Hunt, series champion overall, came second, with Michal Navratil third.

DTM
Martin Tomczyk took yet another DTM win as German Touring Cars came to the UK and the Brands Hatch circuit. Mattias Ekström came second in the Red Bull Audi, with his team-mate Mike Rockenfeller sixth, Rockenfeller having taken a maiden pole position on Saturday. David Coulhard brought home his Mercedes in 12th.

Kitesurfing
Spanish kitesurfing sensation Gisela Pulido took advantage of the strong winds at the PKRA round in Germany to win the event, and seal this year's women's title. A stylish heat from Gisela saw her land seven tricks, including a front blind mobe, slim and 313. Congratulations, Gisela!
