Peruvian Big Wave surfing sensation Gabriel Villaran gives us his guestlist and menu for a perfect fantasy pool and dinner party.
Gabriel Villaran is a man on a mission. After securing a gold medal for his nation at the ISA World Surfing Games he dipped his toes into the Vilcanota River for South America’s first ever static surf. Gabriel is currently taking part in Quiksilver’s Big Wave tour stops in Chile and Peru. While he waits for the ‘big one’ we asked him about his dream dinner party by the pool.
Garnering opinions
Let’s get things off to a good start by asking along some girls. I think if I could only pick three females to invite to my party I would have to choose Jennifer Garner, Gisele Bundchen and Beyoncé. These girls are all ridiculously hot and from what I have seen on television and in magazines they seem like they would be good fun to hang out with. I could ask Jennifer for some acting tips, ask Gisele about what to do on the catwalk and get some singing lessons from Beyoncé. I would also be happy to take the girls out on the waves and show them a thing or two.
No fireworks permitted
Next up, I’m inviting along Leonardo DiCaprio because I really respect his work and he’s someone who I’d like to meet face-to-face. I’ve never seen Leonardo put in a bad performance in a movie and I get the impression he knows how to have a good time. I think Gisele and Leonardo used to have a thing going on so hopefully they’ll be no fireworks at the party and I won’t have to play the peacemaker.
A friend at my table
The last person I’m going to invite is a good friend and someone I always like to have around when I’m having a party. My team-mate on the Peruvian surf scene Cristobal De Col is not just great at catching waves but also the funniest guy I know. Also, I suppose I’d have to invite Cristobal because I want to hold the party at his house!
A friend at his table
Cristobal’s place in Organos in northern Peru is ideal for a party. The Pacific Ocean is just a stone’s throw away and the place has a pool as well. It’s the perfect spot to chill out with my guests, watch the sun go down and enjoy a few mojitos.
On the menu
Before I could totally relax with my guests, I suppose I would have to cook them some food. For the starter, I’d do a cerviche, the classic Peruvian seafood dish. I make my cerviche with lenguado, a type of sole fish you can catch off the coast of Peru. The main course would then be some Peruvian lobster in butter sauce, served with rice. For dessert, I will show the girls my sensitive side with a little crème brûlée, a delicate touch!
