Cyril Despres has not touched the brakes since winning his fourth Dakar Rally title in Peru a few weeks ago. We managed to catch-up with Cyril for a word on what he has been up to since his historic victory in South America.

Life has not slowed down since crossing the finish line of the Dakar Rally. Luckily this was not my first win at the Dakar so I kind of knew what to expect when I got home.

The truth is that I have not had much time at my home at all. There was a trip to Paris where lots of press wanted to speak to me. I was also invited along by Red Bull to Kitzbühel in Austria for the extreme ski event that is hosted at the resort every year. I was able to take my wife along but my little daughter stayed at home to get spoilt by her two grandmothers. The whole trip to Kitzbühel was great fun, I had the opportunity to hit the slopes and also hang out with my buddies Dani Pedrosa and David Coulthard.

In the few weeks since the end of the Dakar I have also been to Portugal. I wanted to say thanks again to my team-mate Rubin (Faria) for the wonderful job he did helping me to win my fourth Dakar title. While I was in Portugal I also got the chance to share lunch with another Dakar biker, Paulo Goncalves.

It’s been an intense time but I have become used to living my life in the only gear I know, full throttle! I have had the idea to write a book about my Dakar experiences but finding the time for the project is tough. At least there’s no shortage of stories to write about when I do finally put pen to paper.

This weekend I’m heading back to France to attend the Enduro race on the beach of Le Touquet. I not going to race this year but I will be hosting an Under My Wing sand session for 38 young bikers.

The race at Le Touquet remains the biggest Enduro event in France, it was created by Thierry Sabine who also kick started the Dakar Rally. It tells you a lot about Thierry and his passion for the sport that both events are still going strong even though he is sadly no longer with us.
