The week in words

Gary Hunt windy Dean Treml/Red Bull

From Gary Hunt's breathtaking new dive that ultimately proved his undoing to unique surroundings and a massive crowd, Polignano a Mare made for a dramatic fourth stop in the 2010 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

In the divers' own words, we recap the comp in quotes...

Gary Hunt on the two-and-a-half twisting quad, with running take-off, after he executed the dive successfully in training...
"In my head I knew exactly what I had to do but it’s taking that step."

Orlando Duque on what Polignano a Mare means to him...
"I’ve won the previous two times here so I’ve got good memories. The weather is great and the people here are really into their diving so it’s good to come back. It’s like a natural stadium for diving. There are people all around. They all get really excited – it’s a southern Italian thing, I think."

Cyrille Oumedjkane goes back to the drawing board...
"I changed my second dive but maybe now I will change my first dive! Maybe every stop I will change my dives and by the final I will find the right solution!"

The relief Kent De Mond felt after hitting his new dive in the competition on Sunday...
"I’ve been nervous about it for the past two months and just the thought of it made me feel sick with nerves."

Winner Artem Silchenko is not giving up hope of overhauling Gary Hunt at the top. The Russian trails his rival by 10 points with two stops still to go..
"I can still beat Gary. Anything is possible – it’s an extreme sport."

Orlando Duque explains Gary Hunt's crash...
"When you’re standing on the platform you can see a little bit better what’s going on down there [in the water] and with his dive it was a running take-off. I think that he might have been caught by one of the waves."
