Jamaica international Dane Richards's first goal of the season puts him within striking distance of Red Bull New York's top 10 highest scorers list.
Richards' 16th goal for the club levelled the score to seal a point for RBNY in their away tie to Houston Dynamos on Sunday. It puts him 11th overall on the all-time scoring list with Eddie Gaven, Jozy Altidore and Alex Comas and one short of tying with Anthony De Avila.
Richards was set up for the goal by new signing Dwayne De Rosario. The former Toronto FC skipper and Canada international only had to wait 45 minutes for his first appearance as coach Hans Backe put him on to inject some urgency into the RBNY attack.
Backe describes DeRo as 'the last piece' in his starting XI, and on the evidence of his debut, it wasn't hard to see why.
A four-time MLS Cup winner, De Rosario was only signed last Friday from Toronto, with midfielder Tony Tchani and defender Danleigh Borman going in the opposite direction, but he made an immediate impact in Red Bull colours, supplying the scoring pass for Richards' early second half goal.
"He will definitely be a key player for us."
"I think he changed the game in the second half with his final pass for the first goal and also the way he controlled our game," said Backe. "He will definitely be a key player for us.
"He can twist and turn, and the short field passes to help Thierry Henry," said the Red Bulls head coach. "I think that will help Thierry a lot to get that kind of creative player for him."
