Martin's Many Happy Returns?

Martin Niefnecker Moscow Jörg Mitter/Global Newsroom

Redbullcrashedice.com blogger Martin Niefnecker celebrates his birthday this weekend with a return to Quebec City, the scene of his triumph in 2010. After a difficult season for the 21-year-old German, some happy returns would be nice, but what kind of a welcome can he expect from the Canadian crowd after the controversial incident in Moscow that saw Scott Croxall disqualified?

Hi,

After the disappointing situation in Moscow with the disqualification and my exit from the race, I took some time out. I celebrated my birthday together with some friends yesterday and today I am taking the plane to Quebec.

When I travelled to Moscow, I knew that already I had nothing to lose. I’ll go to Canada with the same attitude and I’ll take as many risks as possible to get a decent place at least once this season!

Though I don't expect the Canadian fans to be exactly pleased about my visit after Scott’s disqualification in Moscow, I am looking forward to coming back to Quebec, the place where I enjoyed one of the best moments of my life so far!

Last year, it was pretty clear that the fans would have preferred to celebrate a Canadian winner but I still like to think back to the race and the time I had in Quebec.

I’m sure it will be a great event again. Kyle (Croxall) and Arttu (Pihlainen) have given some top performances this year. Now we will see who is the most consistent.

It’s hard to say which one of them will win as you also need luck. And for sure anything can happen until the finish of the very last heat!

Enjoy the race!

Martin
