Marc Márquez is on course for his third consecutive victory in the MotoGP 125cc championship after a dominant performance in qualifying for the Dutch TT in Assen, Netherlands.
The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider has been in scintillating form recently after returning from injury, with wins at Mugello and Silverstone and he set a scorching pace on Friday, finishing over half a second ahead of the field.
Márquez clocked a lap time of 1’42.191 in qualifying, which was 0.584 seconds ahead of Britain's Bradley Smith, who will start from second on the grid, with Nico Terol and championship leader Pol Espargaró completing the front row.
The 17-year-old headed the timesheets with eight minutes of qualifying remaining and then proceeded to go still faster before Smith's final lap moved him up to second.
At the front of the second row is Sandro Cortese, with Dutch rider Jasper Iwema (CBC Corse) taking sixth position on the grid at his home GP, while Efrén Vázquez (Tuenti Racing) and Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) make up the top eight.
The 125cc race begins at 11am Netherlands time on Saturday morning.
