Kilian Fischhuber continued his excellent start to the season as he overcame a toe injury to finish third at the Boulder World Cup event in Vail, USA.

The Austrian climber came into the event after back-to-back wins in the first two World Cup events but illness and injury threatened to derail his challenge in Colorado. However, he overcame both his swollen toe and a bout of flu to claim a place on the podium.

The event in Vail was won by American Daniel Woods whose two top-outs meant he was the only male competitor to finish more than one problem. Japanese climber Tsukuru Hori finished second.

The result keeps four-time world champion Fischhuber at the top of the overall standings – 97 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

The women’s event was won by Chloe Graftiaux who finished ahead of Anna Stöhr and Juliane Wurm. Both Jenny Lavarda and Natalija Gros claimed top-10 spots, ending the event in eighth and 10th respectively.
