Fries at 5Pointz Nika Kramer

Lilou is tired. He stands in front of the Court Square Diner in Queens and stretches. He’s clutching a bag of fries in one hand, and he’s got grilled cheese sticks in the other. Not the healthiest breakfast, perhaps, but the former Red Bull BC One champion insists it’s the best way to deal with jetlag.

Besides, he’s got a full day ahead of him sightseeing in the hip-hop capital. Top of his list is 5pointz, one of New York’s legendary graffiti-spots.

Hey Lilou, you arrived in New York yesterday evening? Did you get up to anything last night?
Not really. I went to Time Square for dinner and shopping. But actually I didn’t buy anything, I was just checking out the new Nike models.

Have you been to New York before?
Yes, once. That was last year in October. I was here with my crew for a theatre show near Broadway. In the play we basically told the story of the Pokemon Crew with big screens, lights and a lot of dancing, of course.

What were your first impressions back then?
I felt like I was in a movie. I’ve been to Los Angeles, Portland and Minneapolis before but New York is different. And there’s so much more to discover! I’m really looking forward to see some of the famous hip-hop-spots which is why we’re heading to Live 5pointz.

You’re going with one of your Red Bull BC One-rivals Kid Glyde (from New York). Did you guys know each other before you met up here?
Not really. I think we met at some competition a couple of years ago, but we never really talked before.

What do you know about his dancestyle?
He’s obviously very much into that New York footwork-style. You have to know that East and West in terms of US-B-Boying is totally different. Here it’s rather old skool, a lot of footwork, in Los Angeles on the other hand it’s more about freezes and powermoves. And the French style is more West-orientated.

How did you prepare for the event? Did you check out your rivals on YouTube?
Actually no. I know most of them, or at least I know about their styles. And I guess they haven’t changed it recently. So I’m prepared anyway.
