Athlete Gregor Schlierenzauer Rutger Pauw

After coming back home from Sardinia, Gregor Schlierenzauer has no time to rest. We caught up with him ahead of his apearance at the Beachvolleyball Grand Slam in Klagenfurt, Austria to talk tanning, fake volleyball matches and holiday snap shots...

Gregor, you just came back from holiday in Sardinia. How did you like it?
It was amazing! I spent my time lying in the sun, eating great food and sleeping in. And I've been on a very nice boat trip.

What was your favorite dish?
Pasta and lasagna of course.

You got a pretty nice tan…
(laughs) Not too bad for six days, is it?

Well, holidays and relaxing are over now. What's next on your schedule?
I'm going to start my training again, putting the focus on jumps. We'll try everything that we can and test a lot. We started in May with jumps on the mats. The training sessions in Austria will start soon and we are just super busy in the summer.

Despite all that, you'll be at the Beachvolleyball Grand Slam in Klagenfurt this weekend. A pleasant distraction?
Of course. I'm really looking forward to this weekend and just can't wait for it. I went there for the first time last year and the atmosphere was simply stunning. That's why I'm really excited to go there again and because I'll be able to play a game myself.

Who will be your opponent?
We are going to play against some amateur players. It will be great. I really like being at the heart of the action particularly at such a special event.

There's a commercial on Austrian TV that shows you and your colleagues losing a beachvolleyball match to your coaches. Are you better in real life?
Totally. We just had to lose for the commercial, but in real life, well, they would never beat us.

You started to become a really passionate photographer about a year ago. Are you going to show us some of your holiday snap shots?
I really hope to upload some of them to my homepage in the next days. Allthough I'm in training, I just love to sort pictures out and upload new content to my online album. You should all take a look.
