Vicky Arvaniti and Maria Tsiartsiani once again showed their superiority over their fellow Greek volleyball players as they swept to the Panhellenic Championship in Kavala Keramoti.
Despite suffering from fatigue after their exertions in World Tour Grand Slam in Klagenfurt, Austria, the girls won all four of their matches on route to the final without dropping a set. In the final, Arvaniti and Tsiartsiani gave their opponents few chances, winning 21-8 and 21-6 for a 2-0 victory.
The win gave Tsiartsiani her fifth national title and Arvaniti her fourth. The latter was also rewarded with the most valuable athlete title – a crown she also won last year.
“We are very happy to win yet another title in Greece,” said Arvaniti. “We had lots of "alchemy" in our game, we changed positions on the court with Maria, one playing defence and one on the block. We needed such a break from the constant pressure of the World Tour Tournaments.”
"As Vicky said, it was great fun,” added Tsiartsiani. “Our aim was also to win the title but with the least possible energy consumption. Now we look forward to the next challenge at the Grand Slam of Mazuri with the aim to maintain our top ten ranking and why not to go one step further. Shortly after we will have the final of the European championship held in Berlin which is probably the major goal for us this year.”
Next up for the girls is a trip to Poland. For more ball sports action, click here.
