Alison Cerutti ended the year on a high by winning the Brazilian Beach Volleyball title, while also being honoured by both national and international beach volleyball associations.

Cerutti, along with partner Harley Marquez Silva, claimed the national title by winning seven consecutive legs and in the process broke the record of Brazilian beach volleyball legends, Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos.

The Vitoria-born star celebrated his 24th birthday in style by not only becoming champion, but being named Best Blocker and Best Attacker by the CVB (Brazilian Beach Volleyball Association).

In just his second full season on the FIVB World Tour, Cerutti’s performances and achievements have impressed Rego sufficiently for the 36-year-old four-time Olympian to invite Cerutti to become his partner for the 2010 season.

Rego’s vast experience – he has over 100 professional beach volleyball titles to his name and is the FIVB World Tour leader in career earnings and gold medals – will be invaluable in Cerutti’s quest to become world champion and in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games.

Cerutti’s end to the year was also boosted when he was honoured at the recent Swatch FIVB World Tour 2009 awards, which were announced in Lausanne, Switzerland.

He was named Most Improved Player and finished third in the Best Blocker category behind Jonas Reckerman and Phil Dalhausser, which is an indication of the strides Cerutti has made this year.

Cerutti’s Brazilian title winning partner Harley Marquez Silva, with whom Cerutti won two FIVB titles in 2009 (in Shanghai and Myslowice, Poland) won the Most Outstanding Player award for the second consecutive year.

With three second-place finishes, including a silver medal at the 2009 world championships in Norway, Harley and Alison were ranked second on the FIVB World Tour points standings behind Germany's Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann.
